This fungus spreads from the tropical south to the colder north. Rust color pustules and origin make this common name easy to remember.

This disease looks just like its common name, like a ‘tar spot’. It’s tar-black spots can appear not only on leaves but, can cover husks and leaf sheaths when severe.
